The Boone County Solid Waste Management District announced that this year’s Reuse Heart and Sole Shoe Collection proved successful with 8,433 shows collected that may be reused for those in need.
The annual project through the district aims to provide community members with an opportunity to dispose of their unwanted shoes for reuse by others in need while keeping shoes out of landfills.
This year’s top collection spots were Milestone Contractors with 1,520 pairs, Valerie Erskine Residence with 1,071 pairs, Western Boone High School with 985 pairs, Hussey Mayfield Memorial Public Library with 904 pairs and Perry Worth Elementary with 540 pairs.
