The Boone County Economic Development Corporation (Boone EDC) and its Board of Directors announced the hiring of Andrea Kern as the organization’s new Chief Executive Officer. With a decade of experience in community and economic development, strategic leadership, and program implementation, Kern is poised to lead Boone EDC into a new era of growth and innovation.
Andrea Kern brings an impressive background in economic revitalization and strategic planning. Most recently, she served as the Director of Strategic Initiatives at the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs, where she spearheaded statewide programs designed to strengthen communities, enhance economic opportunities, and promote business retention. Notably, she created and led the PreservINg Main Street program, a model for downtown revitalization that has catalyzed millions in private investment and bolstered the sustainability of local businesses across Indiana.
Kern extensive experience in engaging with local, state, and national partners makes her uniquely suited to lead Boone EDC’s efforts in business attraction, workforce development, and quality-of-life enhancements. Her deep understanding of Boone County, including her collaborations with Heart of Lebanon and strategic work that has impacted Zionsville and the greater region, positions her to immediately contribute to the county’s continued success.
Shane Conner, Boone EDC Board President, expressed his enthusiasm for Kern’s leadership, stating: “Andrea Kern is exactly the leader Boone EDC needs at this critical juncture. Her track record of developing and implementing high impact programs, coupled with her passion for community-driven economic growth, will be instrumental in propelling Boone County forward. Under Andrea’s guidance, Boone EDC will expand its influence, strengthen its partnerships, and create even greater opportunities for businesses and residents alike. We are excited for the future she will help shape.”
Andrea Kern stated, “I’m incredibly excited to step into this role and work alongside the businesses, local leaders, and community partners who make Boone County such a dynamic place to live and work. The challenges we face—like housing, childcare and workforce development—aren’t solved in silos. The best solutions come when we bring people together, align our efforts, and take action. Boone County has the talent, vision, and momentum to tackle these challenges head-on, and I can’t wait to get to work alongside this incredible community.”
Kern’s ability to build cross-sector collaborations and advocate for policies that support inclusive economic development aligns perfectly with Boone EDC’s mission. She has worked closely with the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC), played a pivotal role in the READI 2.0 selection process, and successfully secured funding for community-driven projects across the state. Her expertise in economic strategy and her commitment to Boone County’s success will ensure that Boone EDC remains a vital force in regional development.
As she steps into this role, Kern will focus on advancing Boone EDC’s strategic vision, deepening relationships with local businesses and stakeholders, and ensuring Boone County remains at the forefront of economic innovation in Indiana.
