Boone REMC broke ground on its new facility yesterday, Nov. 4 with intentions for the new facility to enhance operations and prepare for future growth within the county.
The ground-breaking ceremony saw participation from employees, members of the board of directors and representatives from the construction partners working to bring the new facility to fruition. Board Chairman Noel Kendall commented about the significance behind the new facility for the service team.
“This is a milestone moment for our cooperative,” Kendall said. “In the 25 years since we moved into our current building, we’ve seen remarkable growth. In that time, our meter count has increased by 140%. This new facility will provide us with the space and tools we need to support our mission of service excellence, expand our equipment and infrastructure and ensure quick response to service interruptions.”
The new facility is expected to feature a dedicated dispatch area, expanded meeting spaces and a larger warehouse to accommodate the size and needs of modern utility equipment expected to be introduced to the cooperative.
Boone REMC President and CEO Bill Conley shared his thoughts regarding the expansion in retrospect to the history of the cooperative, being Indiana’s first rural electric cooperative to be founded.
“Today’s groundbreaking is a celebration of Boone REMC’s legacy of service and innovation,” Conley said. “Formed in 1935, Boone REMC has grown from energizing a 60-mile line for 185 members to serving over 19,000 meters. This project lays the foundation for our future, enabling us to continue improving quality of life for those we serve.”
The new facility is expected to maintain Boone REMC’s central location with easy access to Interstate 65 while meeting the needs of current and future staff as they strive to fulfill the cooperative’s mission.
