The Carroll County Chamber of Commerce celebrated a ribbon cutting alongside the community, city officials and members of Broadway Broadband to celebrate phase one of the project intended to install fiber options throughout Delphi and Carroll County in the future.
The community gathered on Wednesday afternoon to celebrate phase on of the Broadway Broadband project in Delphi that intends to provide high-speed fiber to the city and the Carroll County community as a whole. The Broadway Broadband project is spearheaded by the Miami-Cass REMC, and an office has been established at 115 E. Main St. in Delphi. Carroll County Chamber Executive Director Julia Leahy commented about the celebration that featured free ice cream for attendees.
“We’ve already cut a ribbon when they opened their office, but today’s kind of a special day because they are officially live and people are starting to sign up, so this was a great opportunity to celebrate,” Leahy said.
Director of Marketing and Member Services for Miami-Cass REMC Mike Barron discussed the project as the service has been officially launched with multiple community members opting in for the service since its office opened its doors last week.
“We just went live about a week or two ago, and we’re starting to connect people in phase one, so we’re pretty excited about that,” Barron said. “Not only are we going to provide a faster, more reliable service, but we are just looking forward to being in the community and being involved with whatever. It’s been a good process so far.”
Miami-Cass REMC Customer Service Representative Paige Beamer described the service areas that phase one of the project will reach, including portions of Delphi, and the service is seeking to continue its expansion into other areas of Carroll County in the future.
“The phase one project starts at Indiana Packers, goes about to Riley Park and then over to St. Joe’s Cemetery,” Beamer said.
Delphi Mayor Kamron Yates expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating that the opportunity for community members to receive access to high-speed fiber internet allows for the community of Delphi and Carroll County to maintain their development in the fast-paced and digital world.
“It’s very exciting,” Yates said. “A lot of work going in to getting us here today with broadband, and the previous Delphi City Council and former Mayor Worley. A lot of work put in to getting us to where we are, and a lot of work moving forward, but it’s very exciting with today’s challenges of technology. It’s a huge step for every household in the city to have reliable internet.”
