The Carroll County Comet can trace its roots back 185 years to 1837 and the Moss Family ownership for print media in Carroll County has been a part of that history for four generations and over 100 years.
In the December 27th edition of the Comet, owners Susan Moss Scholl and Joe Moss announced that the December 27th edition would be its last. In the message to its readers, the Comet expressed its appreciation to its advertisers, staff, families and readers. Like most local media today, income is derived almost entirely from local advertising dollars. It is a fact of life that strong local media comes, at least in part, from strong local financial support. The letter to the Carroll County Community from the Comet thanks advertisers who supported the paper over the years.
The owners led the story with the following: “Today is the last issue of the Carroll County Comet. Yes, you are holding the very last issue. We have made the decision to close the business and retire.”

The office will be open from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM on Wednesdays and Thursdays through January, weather permitting, to “tie up loose ends and issue refunds when applicable.”
