Cleora Jean Kouns

Cleora Jean Kouns was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend during her 85 years of life. She passed away peacefully on March 10, 2024, with her family by her side.

Born on May 1st, 1938, in Lebanon, Indiana to Ralph S. Calvert and Mary (Cox) Calvert, she grew up in a large and lively family with eight siblings. Not long after graduating from Sheridan High School in 1956, Cleora married her sweetheart, Danny Lee Kouns and together they raised three wonderful sons, Danny, Darwin, and Darron. As a housemaker, she cherished her days tending to their home and farm, all while keeping up with her rambunctious boys. After Danny’s retirement in the early 90’s, they moved to Ellenton, Florida where they soaked in the sunshine and enjoyed life at a slower pace. Cleora and Danny were blessed with 44 years of marriage before his passing in 2000. In 2017 she moved back to Indiana to be closer to family.

Cleora loved unconditionally and received that love back from so many. She had a laugh that could make even the grumpiest of folks smile, backed with a wit that was unmatched. She was strong, selfless, genuine, honest, and fair. She gave the best advice and the absolute best hugs. And she leaves behind many life lessons – including the ultimate recipe for homemade mac & cheese, the best strategy for Skip-Bo and how to embrace life and all it throws at you.

Waiting until they get to see her again are her three sons and their spouses, Danny & Carla Kouns, Darwin & Ingrid Kouns and Darron & Donna Kouns; her grandchildren, Celeste Houghton, Ashley Crosh, Natosha Owsley, Darwin Kouns Jr., Kyle Kouns, Allyson Norris, Jeff Shelburne, Kailynn Dearinger, Craig Hart, Stephanie Elliott, Sarah Behr, Michael Schaeffer, and Kristi Schaeffer; 31 great-grandchildren and six of her siblings.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 15, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Myers Mortuary, 1502 North Lebanon Street, Lebanon, Indiana. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 16, at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon.
