Clinton Central’s Gymnasium Floor has been the home of thousands of basketball games, Awards Banquets, Graduations and more. In some ways, a Gymnasium can be the heart of the school when it comes time for students, parents and community to gather.
The Clinton Central Gymnasium Floor along with all goals, bleachers, lighting and fixtures will be replaced, finished off with a fresh coat of paint. Everything should be ready by the start of school, according to Clinton Central Assistant Principal Sharon Henry.
The new floor is made of Maple wood. Several parts of the subfloor had to be replaced to insure a solid install. Parts of the subfloor were compromised decades ago when a water pipe burst over the weekend in the High School northwest of the Gym, spilling damaging water all over parts of the Gym floor.
Damage to the Gym Subfloor years ago caused deadspots on the basketball court. Experienced Clinton Central Basketball players knew exactly where these “dead spots” were. Allegedly a basketball would practically stop bouncing in some of these dead spots. Might it be that some experienced basketball players used that knowledge to their advantage and box in opposing players and take home court advantage of those dead spots? Perhaps. But that will never happen again. :>)
Consolidation of Clinton Central took place in 1957. Clinton Central High School opened in 1960.
