Clinton County Begins Process to Fill Sheriff Vacancy

Following the resignation of Richard Kelly, Clinton County has officially begun the process of selecting a new sheriff in accordance with Indiana law.

According to a statement released by Clinton County Commissioners, the vacancy will be filled through a caucus process outlined under Indiana Code 3-13-11-3. Eligible precinct committeemen will receive notification of the caucus meeting, which must take place within 30 days.

In the meantime, Shawn Mayfield will serve as acting sheriff until a permanent replacement is selected.

County officials stated that additional information regarding the caucus process, including meeting details and timelines, will be released as it becomes available.

The transition comes as county leaders work to ensure continuity within the sheriff’s department while the selection process moves forward.
