Clinton County Council Approves Budgets

The Clinton County Council approved three budget ordinances, including the 2023 budget, Tuesday morning at the Frankfort/Clinton County Airport.

“We approved the county’s budget for 2023 which all together was for a little over $30 million between a number of funds, probably two dozen funds,” said County Council Chairman Alan Dunn. “So, that represents a significant investment of taxpayer dollars that we think we’ve appropriated wisely.”

Dunn said the Frankfort/Clinton County Airport budget is$1,275,965 and the Wild Cat Solid Waste District is $320,000.

In other news, Judge Brad Mohler approached the Council about hiring a part-time interpreter position for both courts in Clinton County.

“What Judge Mohler asked for today, which the council approved, was to hire a permanent part-time  position that someone would come in on a regular schedule who would be not just for the courts, but for any county department, to provide interpreter services,” said Dunn.

Dunn added the position would roughly be an 18 hours a week position that would pay about $21,000 per year.

Also, Sheriff Rich Kelly went before the council to try and get a Commissary contract as soon as possible.

“We had been waiting on some clarification for guidelines and responsibilities from the Tippecanoe County Circuit Court that had this issue in front of them and we received the final language clarifying that last week,” said Dunn. “It did make it clear that any monetary amount in a commissary agreement like that does need to be appropriated by the Council.”

Dunn added that was part of the reason Kelly approached them about the subject. Dunn also said the Commissary contract has to be signed by the Clinton County Commissioners thus making this a three-way agreement.
