Flooding has been an issue on State Road 26, especially east of Middlefork. The Clinton County Drainage Board addressed the issue Monday morning.
“We’ve had quite a few complaints,” said Clinton County Surveyor Dan Sheets. “I think there’s been an accident or two out there. The water literally was across the entire section of road. It was deeper on the east bound lanes than it was the west bound lanes simply because it has a super elevation right there. It has a curve right there and it angles up on the east bound lane.”
Sheets added they think they have found a solution.
“It was a very dangerous situation,” said Sheets about the flooding. “We believe the state now is at least aware of it. They have opened up a culvert. We’ll be checking on it and we’ll keep after them to keep that culvert open. Construction has taken place and it should be remedied by the end of the year when they finished their project on 26.”
Sheets also said he thinks the culvert got closed in the fall when Duke Energy was finishing up their work on the project.
Sheets added drivers don’t help the situation because they don’t heed high water signs and keep driving at high speeds.
