Longstanding Clinton County family farms recently received Hoosier Homestead awards for being in operation for 100 years or more, according to State Rep. Heath VanNatter (R-Kokomo) and State Sen. Brian Buchanan (R-Lebanon).
The Carter Farm, in operation since 1905, and theMohler Farm, in operation since 1922, both received Hoosier Homestead Centennial awards.
“Operating a farm for over a century takes a great deal of hard work, knowledge and perseverance,” VanNatter said. “This award is a great achievement, and I want to thank these Hoosiers for their continued contributions to our state.”
These farm families were among more than 100 awardees recently recognized at the Indiana State Fair for their commitment to Indiana agriculture.
“Hoosier Homestead awards honor the longest running farms across the state and acknowledge the dedication of the families that run them,” Buchanan said. “The Carter Farm and the Mohler Farm are more than deserving of this recognition, and I congratulate them on this incredible achievement.”
Farms owned and maintained by the same family for 100 years or more can qualify for centennial, sesquicentennial or bicentennial Hoosier Homestead awards.
Each year, two awards ceremonies are held in the spring and summer commemorating the achievements of farm families across the state. Since its inception in 1976, more than 5,800 farms received the designation as Hoosier Homesteads.
