The Clinton County Youth Theatre announced the world premiere of “Inside Show,” which stands as a performance art presentation created by the participants of a Young Actors Creative Workshop this year.
Community members have been invited to attend the premiere of the program at 6 p.m. this Friday, Sept. 27 at the Frankfort Community Public Library Skanta Theatre.
Throughout the month of September, workshop participants learned about “reader’s theater” while exploring the freedom to read an create their own own performance. During the workshop, the participants were treated to discussions with Indiana Poetry Society President John Hinton and musician Jason Wells.
All participants were tasked with reading a banned or challenged book, including “Where the Wild Things Are,” “Bridge to Terabithia,” ‘The Fault in Our Stars” and “The Outsiders,” which were utilized to aid the workshop participants in their aspirations to construct a presentation for the community to experience.
The culmination of the workshop is a presentation created entirely by the participating actors, including Bailey Langkop, Brynner Dome, Frank Shifflett, Kyla Cooper, Maggie Dieterle, Rianne Horton and Rory Fields.
The workshop was launched in celebration of the American Libraries Banned Books Campaign, which runs from Sept. 22 through Sept. 28, with the theme of “Freed Between the Lines,” which emphasizes the idea that “we can find freedom in the pages of a book, but book bans and censorship threaten that freedom, along with many other rights and institutions.”
The workshop was made possible with the aid of a grant from the Freedom to Read Foundation as well as Emily Shepherd’s leadership.
The event is free and open to the public, but registration is required due to limited space. Registration may be completed by visiting myfcpl.org/calendar or by calling 765-654-8746.
