Here is the original release about the accident:

At approximately 1:20 p.m. Thursday, the Boone County Communications Center received a call for a vehicle collision between a passenger car and a semi-tractor trailer in the area of the 4600 block W SR 32 in Lebanon. Upon law enforcement’s arrival, a passenger car was seen in the northside ditch of SR 32 and a semi-tractor trailer was found in the southside ditch of SR 32. Both vehicles were heavily damaged as a result of the accident. Witnesses to the accident were on-scene and advised law enforcement and fire personnel that the female driver of the passenger car was trapped within the vehicle. After further investigation it was found that the driver was the only occupant of this vehicle. Immediately fire personnel began working on freeing the driver.

As fire personnel worked to remove the driver, deputies went to check on the welfare of the male driver of the Elite Express semi-tractor trailer. The driver of the semi-tractor trailer was out of the vehicle and walking around as deputies approached. However, the driver was taken to a nearby medical facility for a check out. The semi-tractor trailer sustained heavy disabling front-end damage and had to be towed off scene.

As fire personnel continued to make their way into the passenger car, it was found that the driver had serious bodily injuries that needed immediate medical treatment. Due to the nature of the injuries, St. Vincent Stat Flight was requested to the scene. Once the driver was removed from the vehicle, medics proceeded by placing the patient into the ambulance while they waited for Stat Flight’s arrival. Stat Flight arrived on-scene and began assisting with the care of the patient. As the patient was being prepared for helicopter transport the patient passed away.

At this time, the accident is still under investigation and SR 32 is closed between County Road 500 West and County Road 400 W in Boone County, IN. We ask the public to please seek an alternative route for approximately the next 2-3 hours.
