Bids were opened on the proposed new roundabout Tuesday morning during a meeting of the Clinton County Commissioners.
The Commissioners received just two bids for the project, which is designed to put a new intersection at State Road 28 and County Road 800 West, just east of Interstate 65, and be a welcome mat for new commercial development which county officials hope follows.
Commissioners President Jordan Brewer said the two bids were between $4.8 million and $5.6 million. A decision on which bid to accept will take place at either the Commissioners next meeting on February 21 or their first meeting in March.
Brewer said he disappointed by only two bids on the project.
“I will say I thought we’d have more than two,” said Brewer. “There were four to six different companies that reached out, receive packets and asked questions.”
Construction on the roundabout is expected this spring.
The project will also include a new leg of 800 West on the south side of State Road 28 to open it up for further expansion. Appraisals on two of the three bids on the new leg of 800 West were accepted by the Commissioners Tuesday morning as both came in under $25,000. However, they are still waiting on the third bid which is definitely over $25,000.
In other news, officials from Community Howard Behavior Health said they would be vacating their building downtown on February 20.
