The Clinton County Commissioners elected to table the highly publicized and controversial nepotism policy Monday morning.
The move comes after the Commissioners passed the first reading of the ordinance on August 3 with the intention of passing the second reading at this meeting.
“I just think there is a lot of things to consider with it,” said Commissioners President Jordan Brewer. “At this point, it seems like our best option is to kind of leave it out there on the table and we’ll address it when the time is more right.”
In other news, the Commissioners voted unanimously to change the speed limit on West 200 South from 55 to 45. Following a speed study recommendation that the speed limit being lowered only to 50, Brewer suggested the limit be lowered to 45 which the other two Commissioners agreed was the correct thing to do.
Also, Commissioner Josh Uitts brought up two things that they want to look into.
First, the Commissioners gave the approval for Uitts to approach a grant writer about a 50/50 matching grant from the Indiana Historic Preservation to look into a renovation of the clock tower at the courthouse.
Second was the possibility of enacting a Cemetery Restoration Board. Uitts said the Commissioners have received several calls about cemeteries that have fallen into disrepair and have let the wilderness take over.
