Construction has officially begun on the new intersection at State Road 28 and County Road 800 W, just east of I-65. Construction includes a roundabout at the intersection as well as an additional extension of 800 W on the north and south sides of State Road 28 for future expansion.
“Crews took delivery of storm structures and pipes last week. They’ll begin installing them on the north side of the project this week,” says Chris Wheatley, Vice President of BF&S Civil Engineers. “Construction of the north and south legs of 800W will be our focus for the remainder of this year.”
Both roads will remain open during construction, but there will be some lane closures on State Road 28. Work on SR 28 will not start until next spring. The entire project should be complete in June 2024.
Clinton County and the City of Frankfort hope the new intersection will kick start economic development in the area, generating additional tax dollars and new employment opportunities.
“Our gateway along Interstate 65 is a singular chance to make an impression,” says Jordan Brewer, President of the Clinton County Commissioners. “This initiative is an open invitation, declaring that we are ready for business. We’re eager to introduce our community to the state.”
