Construction Scheduled to Begin March 15 on I-65 Added Travel Lanes Project in Boone County

The Indiana Department of Transportation is preparing to reconstruct and widen I-65 from north of State Road 32 to north of State Road 47 in Boone County. The project will add one lane in each direction and includes the removal of the I-65 and Lafayette Avenue exit ramp near Lebanon.

Beginning on or around March 15, crews will begin Phase 1 of work, which is expected to last into mid-July, weather dependent. Impacts to traffic include:

  • Closing the outside shoulder of I-65 overnight for shoulder strengthening, leaving one lane open in each direction. Monday through Thursday nights, restrictions will begin at 7 p.m., and Friday through Sunday nights, restrictions will begin at 8 p.m. All lanes will reopen each day by 6 a.m.
  • Eliminating the left-hand exit movement from I-65 to Lafayette Avenue.
  • Reducing the speed limit through the project area to 55 mph during the day and 45 mph overnight.

E&B Paving LLC was selected in October 2020 to complete the work with a bid of $83,733,000. Construction is expected to begin in March and continue until late 2021, weather dependent. Work is expected to resume in March 2022 and be complete by November 2022.
