Crime Guns Task Force Conduct Death Investigation

Members of the Indiana Crime Guns Task Force obtained probable cause for a search warrant in the 4500 block of east Washington Street in Indianapolis. According to investigators, the task force received information about a serious violent felon in possession of firearms. The officers applied for a search warrant for the apartment the man was living in, that search warrant was granted by a Marion County Judge earlier today.

At approximately 6:30 p.m., several officers assigned to the task force arrived at the residence to serve the search warrant. They knocked on the apartment door and received no response. They paused a few moments and knocked again. A short time later the officers heard what they believed to be a gunshot from inside the apartment. An adult male and a toddler opened the door and exited the apartment. Officers entered the residence where they located an adult male with an injury consistent with a gunshot wound, the man was unresponsive and pronounced deceased at the scene. Preliminary indications are the man suffered a self inflicted gunshot wound.
Indiana State Police Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators responded to the scene to investigate the death. There were no bystanders, other people or officers injured in this incident. No officers discharged a weapon and were equipped with body cameras.

This incident is currently under investigation and there is no further information to release at this time.

The Indiana Crime Guns Task Force is comprised of officers from several agencies. Involved in this incident were officers from the Indiana State Police, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department and Beech Grove Police Department.
