David “Dave” Birge, 83, passed away Sunday, July 19th in Naples, Florida. He was born on December 6, 1942, in Frankfort Indiana to the late Raymond and Renia Birge.
David grew up working on the family farm in Colfax with his father, raising livestock and farming. He graduated from Thorntown High School in 1960 where he was highly involved in the FFA.
He began working with Maynard Craig out of Zionsville as a Brick Mason. He later joined the Union and would do side jobs with his good friend Mick on the weekends. He was still a member of the Bricklayers Local 4. He relocated to Naples, Florida in the early 80’s. He loved coming home to Lebanon to visit family and spend time with his granddaughters. While he was here, he would be sure to point out all the brick work he had completed in prior years. He was so incredibly proud of his work he even kept a photo album of his completed jobs.
He loved staying busy and was quite the perfectionist. He enjoyed his early morning coffee on the lanai by the pool, working on his lawn, landscaping, maintaining his fruit trees in the backyard, cleaning his vehicles, and working on the many condos he owned. He had the best sense of humor and was always using phrases that not many would be familiar with. His laugh was unique and infectious and will be missed immensely. He had a collection of over 200 diecast cars and tractors he was very proud of. Along with the cars, he had many trophies he had won over the years of being a member of the Naples Corvette Club with his 1979 Corvette.
He met Cindy in 1992 in Naples. They spent many years together enjoying riding bicycles to the nearest ponds in the area and fishing together often competing on who could catch the biggest fish. They married in 2015, she survives.
Survivors include his wife, Cynthia Holcomb of Naples, Florida; Son, Tod Birge of Jamestown; brother, Wayne Birge of Summer Shade, Ky; granddaughters Ashley (companion, Donald “Butch” Glass) Birge of Crawfordsville, Korey (Matt Ellison) Birge of Danville, and Lacey (Keaton) Foster of Fowler; Niece, Darlene (David) Stephenson of Clarks Hill; Nephews, Chris (Christina) Birge of Lebanon, Jeremy Birge of Lebanon, Travis (Jessica) Birge of Westfield; Great grandchildren, Easton and Sloane Foster of Fowler; as well as many Great Nieces and Nephews.
He is proceeded in death by his parents Raymond and Renia Birge; sister and brother-in-law Dorothy and Herb Stine; Daughter in law, Susan Birge; Great Niece, Lyndsey Stevenson-Whatley.
Funeral Services are planned for 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at Myers Mortuary, 1502 North Lebanon Street, in Lebanon, Indiana. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services. Interment will follow at Maple Lawn Cemetery in Thorntown.
