David Lee Woodard lived a life following Jesus Christ and on Saturday, July 11, 2026, one day after his 91st birthday, he went to his heavenly home to be with Him. David was born to Oscar Carl and Eula (Marker) Woodard on July 10,1935, in Boone County, Indiana.
On September 2, 1956, David and Bonnie Fearnow were joined in holy matrimony. Their family grew with the birth of their son Randy and later their daughter Annette. He suffered the loss of Bonnie in 2002 and Randy in 2010. David married Joyce (Smith) Braziel on February 8, 2003. They were blessed with 23 years together.
David grew up on a dairy farm where he worked alongside his father. He attended Pinnell School for 12 grades and graduated in 1954. He also attended Purdue University where he studied Agriculture and Science. David served our country in the U.S. Army and the Reserves for six years during the Korean War. He worked at Pittman Moore/Dow Elanco for 38 years before retiring in 1994.
He was baptized at the age of 15 at the New Brunswick Church of Christ and faithfully served as elder, deacon, Sunday school teacher, Trustee, and youth leader. He and Joyce did volunteer janitorial service for the church for several years. David also served on the board of directors at Hanging Rock Christian Camp and was a dorm dean for many years.
He loved fishing, hunting, reading, and enjoyed traveling to almost every one of the 50 states with his wife Joyce. He also traveled to the countries of Australia and New Zealand.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar Carl and Eula Woodard; first wife Bonnie Woodard; son, Randy Woodard; and sister-in-law, Charlene Woodard.
He is survived by his wife Joyce; his daughter, Annette (Dan) Kahlenberg of Colorado; stepchildren, Reggie (Linda) Braziel of North Carolina, Rick (Teresa) Braziel of Lebanon, Sherri (Lee) Walker of Tennessee, Denise (Kurt) Alexander of Lebanon, and Shawn Braziel of Lebanon; his only brother, Bill Woodard of Lebanon; two nieces, Marcia Owens and Monica (Mike Prevost) Jennings of Lebanon; and a nephew Mark (Cathy) Woodard of Darlington. David is also survived by his three grandchildren Ricky, Raquel, and Ryan Woodard and three great grandchildren. As a result of the union of David and Joyce, he gained 16 more grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
David was loved by so many people. His presence will be a loss that is sorely felt, but the joy of his salvation and hope in Jesus Christ will be our comfort!
Funeral Services with Military Rites are planned for 12:00 noon, on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at New Brunswick Church of Christ, 6480 South State Road 39, in Lebanon, Indiana. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Interment will follow at Old Union Cemetery in Jamestown.
