Webb’s Daylily Gardens just north of Bunnell Cemetery on Farmer Gravel Road one mile northwest of Frankfort has been selected for a tour by the midwest convention of Daylily enthusiasts throughout the midwest. Every winter and summer, Daylily lovers from Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois, Ohio and Indiana gather to share their passion for Daylilys. This year, Lafayette will host the summer Daylily convention and Clinton County’s own Pete and Angel Webb’s Garden will be featured on tour.

Pete’s mother many years ago dropped off some Daylilys for Pete. “I planted them and I couldn’t kill ‘em.” He discovered all he had to do to bring them back year after year was “Keep the weeds out” and they’ll be back.
Now Webb’s Daylily Gardens LLC develops its own breed of beautiful Daylilies that preserve the beauty of growers far down south but cross breeds them to do well in Indiana with a much harsher winter. Webb pays attention to the number of buds per plant and will cross breeds for that charactoristic, too. Whatever is lacking in the Daylily, Webb will crossbreed it until it has the traits he is looking for. Once he finds it, he will reproduce that breed and make it available for the pubic to enjoy.
Webb is a retired quality control specialist from Eli Lilly and takes this hobby on not only for a little extra money for his trouble, but for the relaxation it brings to his life.
The garden attracts butterflies and he says the hummingbirds come toward the flowers but don’t spend much time there.
Daylillys in his garden start blooming second week in June and will keep blooming “to frost.”
