Donnie Dean Lowery, 79, was born on February 14, 1946 in Veedersburg, IN, to the late Robert and Ruby Lowery. On May 14, 2025, he went on to be with our Lord and his loved ones that have already passed. Donnie passed away peacefully at his home in Colfax, IN. Donnie was blessed with five daughters and one son between two marriages. His daughters are Brenda Newhart, Lucinda (known as Cindy) Skinner, and Peggy Troyer. His stillborn son was Alvin Lowery. Years later, Ashley Weatherman, and Jacquilynne Lowery who passed away at the young age of 13. Brenda, Lucinda, and Peggy all expressed the privilege they had of watching him become a Father again, and seeing how proud he was of “all his girls”. He has 17 Grandchildren, Brenda’s Children: Kevin, Kasey, Karlie, Evan, Cindy’s Children: Tiffany, Austen, Justen, Brittany, Kristen, Sydney, Seiara, Peggy’s children: Michael, Hans, Jeremiah, and Ashley’s Children: Carson, Ashlynne, William. He also has 24 Great Grandchildren. He is survived by his siblings Mary, Ellen, and Russell Lowery. Donnie’s brothers that have preceded him in death are James, Harold, Joseph, and Kenny. He also was blessed with several nieces and nephews.
Donnie is described by his daughters as a hard worker, always willing to help, strived to make things better, and could be quiet, but would surprise them with the knowledge he had. Many may not know that he was also sentimental and kept cards and pictures that were given to him over the years. He just wanted to be needed and loved. Donnie was a proud father and Grandfather. He was known to say, “You know your old Dad loves you”. He worked at Payless Supermarket for 50 years, starting as a sacker at the age of 15 and retiring as a Store Manager. His integrity and strength was revealed when he refused to unlock the safe at Payless when a gun was placed to his head early on in his career. Even though he was a workaholic, his daughters witnessed his rough edges soften and felt his deep love and appreciation to be with his family over the past several years. Later in his life he rediscovered happiness and renewed his dedication to God. He realized his need to secure his eternal home in Heaven. We can only imagine how wonderful it must have been when he was reunited with his son and daughter in Heaven. He spoke of not a day that had gone by that he didn’t think of his son, and he carried his daughter, Lynne’s obituary with him. His daughters expressed that they can only imagine his delight in holding his Grandson, Marcus and Great Granddaughter, LuLu.
His hobbies included bowling, farming, watching sports, and mowing the grass. He took pride in sharing his high scores in bowling with his Grandchildren. Donnie loved to mow the grass and help with projects around the house. He also really liked riding around the countryside in the golf cart looking at all the fields. He would be all smiles when his Great Grandchildren would knock on his door and he would give them cookies. Donnie was especially proud to have a namesake, Kassidy Dean, which he teasingly called “Dean-O”. Kassidy went on to name his son Dean to carry on the name. His Grandchildren would often recall that he had a way of telling stories that was simply captivating. He didn’t just share stories, he held them captive with his narratives which were often long, always opinionated, and somehow every single time, he’d leave you hanging on the edge of your seat. He had a way of telling stories that really captivated them whether he was recounting his childhood memories or sharing his thoughts on the latest news.
His daughters wanted to share that the greatest gift that their parents gave them was the gift of love and respect for each other. It was not uncommon for all of them to have holidays together with their Dad Donnie, Dad Mac, and Mom Cody. They would tease each other, tell stories, and laugh. His daughters are thankful to the three of them for this rare blessing to our families and the example they set for their Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren.
