Dorothy M. (Hine) Smith

Dorothy M. (Hine) Smith, 95, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 19, 2023, in her home surrounded by family. She was born in Lebanon, Indiana on May 5, 1928 to the late Clyde and Erma (Darnell) Hine.

Dorothy graduated from Lebanon High School in 1946 and married Roy T. Smith on January 29, 1948, in Lebanon. They shared 26 years together before he preceded her in death on November 13, 1974.

First and foremost, she had a deep committed relationship with God. She enjoyed being a farmer’s wife and homemaker. Her family was her pride and joy.

Before she and Roy married, Dorothy worked for Indiana Bell as a telephone operator.

She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, taking pride in being the matriarch of the family and their greatest prayer warrior.

Dorothy attended Lebanon Church of the Nazarene for many years and later attended Hope Community Church, Lebanon.

Survivors include her children: Dennis Smith, Upland; Janet Cory, Lebanon; and Joyce (Steve) Belcher, Avon; five grandchildren: Aaron (Sadiemae) Smith; Ashley (Kyle) Adams; Kyle (Jaqueline) Smith; Amy Cory; and Renee (Jason) Glass; 17 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and sister-by-choice, Wilma Schroder.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two grandchildren; her siblings: Frances Neal, Maxine Greene, Ruthanna Hamm, Evalina Hedge, Virginia “Babe” Emmons, Hannah Hine, and Joe Hine; her daughter-in-law, Teresa Smith; and sisters-by-choice, Joan Reynolds and Ramona Whitaker.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Armes-Hunt Funeral Home, Jones-Smith Chapel, 259 N. Main St., Upland, where a visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 from 4 – 7pm. A visitation will also be held at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St, Lebanon on Wednesday, May 24, 2023 from 4-7 pm. The funeral service will be on Thursday, May 25, 2023 at Noon at Myers Mortuary. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, Lebanon.
