Farm Profiles for Carroll, Clinton and Boone Counties: Total Ag Income: $777,307,000

Carroll, Clinton and Boone Counties have strong agricultural roots.  This is a comparative analysis of these three counties and how Carroll, Clinton and Boone counties are changing agriculturally.

The total annual Ag Income for Carroll, Clinton and Boone Counties is $777,307,000.  The total number of farms in all three counties is 1,582 farms.  Acreage farmed in all three counties totals 608,577 acres, equivalent to about 460,236 football fields.

The following is a summary of Ag activity in each of the three counties served by WILO 96.9 FM, 1570 AM and Boone 102.7 and Kaspar Media. Data are taken from the United States Department of Agriculture Ag Census database. This snapshot is from 2022 information, the most recent we could find on the USDA website.

Carroll County leads the way in total farm income of $299,907,000.  Clinton is number two with total farm income of $274,170,000 in the 2022 census.  Boone County’s total 2022 Farm Income (before the LEAP project began) was $230,230,000. 

Carroll County is number THREE in Hog and Pig production in the state of Indiana with 97,749 Hogs and Pigs.  Clinton and Boone counties are 13th and 47th in the state for Hog and Pig production respectively. 

Boone County leads the other two counties in CROP sales, primarily because Boone County raises very few Hogs and Pigs, so most farm income in Boone County is grain-based.  Boone County’s Crop sales in 2022 was $211,879,000 compared to $205,049,000 and $189,484,000 for Clinton and Carroll Counties, respectively.

Carroll County, by far, has the most Livestock activity with total livestock sales in Carroll County at $110,423,000 compared to $69,122,000 and $18,000,000 for Clinton and Boone Counties, respectively.
