Flood Watch Remains in Effect as Showers and Storms Return to Central Indiana

Central Indiana residents should be prepared for additional showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and tonight as a Flood Watch remains in effect from 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 19, through 8 a.m. Thursday, August 20.

For this afternoon, there is a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms. Skies will be partly sunny, with a high temperature near 77 degrees. Southwest winds will be around 6 mph.

The chance for storms increases tonight, with showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 1 a.m. The National Weather Service is also calling for patchy fog after midnight. Otherwise, skies will remain mostly cloudy, with a low around 62 degrees.

Tonight’s winds will be light and variable, and the chance of precipitation is 60%. Rainfall amounts of approximately one-quarter to one-half inch are possible.

With the Flood Watch in effect, residents should remain alert for the potential for flooding, especially in areas that receive repeated or heavy rainfall. Drivers are reminded never to drive through flooded roadways, as water depth can be difficult to judge and conditions can change quickly.

The Flood Watch is currently scheduled to remain in effect through 8 a.m. Thursday, August 20. Residents should continue monitoring weather conditions and be prepared for changing conditions overnight.
