Francis “Rex” Young, 87, of Pittsboro passed away August 29, 2026 at his home. He was born to Herbert Joseph and Bertha Bernice (McClain) Young on December 22, 1938 in Clinton County, Indiana. He was previously married to Linda Lou Metzger and Donna Faye Wolf.
Rex was a 1956 graduate of Rossville High School. He spent forty years working for Fairfield Manufacturing. Rex had a love for motorcycles and gardening. He was a sports fan who enjoyed watching Rossville, Purdue, Indiana Fever, and NASCAR. He enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and listening to Blue Grass music. He attended the Indiana Fiddler Festival every year. Rex was also a John Deere Tractor and World War II Military Aircraft enthusiast. Rex possessed a loving, gentle spirit that profoundly affected those blessed enough to be a part of his life. He also had the strength and determination of a warrior, evident in the courageous battle he waged against cancer. He will long be remembered for his wit and ornery spirit.
Surviving are: his children, Randall Joe Young of Battleground, Rollin Wayne Young of Flora, Phillip Gene Young of Lafayette, Peggy Sue (Robert) Campbell of Pittsboro, Dionne Storey of Fishers, Sonja Marie (Tom) Pritchett of Lafayette, Tammy (Herbert) Cortezz of Missouri, Roxie Beth Baker of Missouri, Christie Treen of New Mexico, and Danny (Siobhan) Thomas of Portland, Oregon; his brother, Morris “Gene” Young of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; ten grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, Herbert and Bertha; his sister, Carol Elaine Campbell; his brother, Billy Joe Young; and an infant brother, Bobby Young.
Friends may visit Friday, September 4 from 4-7 p.m. at Goodwin Funeral Home, 200 S. Main St., Frankfort. A funeral service will be held Saturday, September 5 at 10:30 at the funeral home.
