Law enforcement and local government officials across the country spent last Wednesday on Capitol Hill to speak about legislation that may allow for trucks to carry larger hauls in the nation, and Frankfort Police Department Chief and 1st Vice-President for the Indiana Association of Chiefs of Police Scott Shoemaker was one of the many attendees.

According to reports from the Coalition Against Bigger Trucks, law enforcement leaders from across the country joined the organization on Capitol Hill to discuss oppositions to legislation that could allow for bigger trucks to be permitted on the roadways with other motorists to haul larger quantities of cargo.
the coalition released a statement that the law enforcement officials met with members of Congress and their staff to voice opposition to proposals that could increase truck size and weight. As a member of the law enforcement team, Chief Shoemaker spoke with Representative Jim Baird regarding the situation, and the coalition thanked Shoemaker alongside the other law enforcement leaders for their efforts on Wednesday.
“CABT would like to thank you for your efforts to keep our community roads and bridges safe and in good repair for the motorists who rely on them, and the taxpayers who fund them,” the coalition released.
The coalition has stated that many concerns with H.R. 7496 are how the increased weight maximums could place stress on bridges as well as cause issues with other motorists on roadways. For more information about the coalition, visit cabt.org.
