DECA announced that it is donating $150 to the Clinton County Humane Society from its DECA Valentine’s Day cookie campaign that it launched for the month of February. The DECA Cookies are baked Monday through Thursday during period 6 and are available at the DECA Cookies cart before school or during the passing period for students and staff to crush that cookie craving. DECA has M&M, chocolate chip and double fudge cookies available for sale weekly while supplies last. One bag of two cookies is $1.

DECA has also entered its 13th year of planning and implementing the DECA Backpack Buddies community service project, which is a project that spawned as DECA committed to feeding 120 Frankfort elementary, middle and high school students. In order for the project to feed the projected number of students for 34 weeks, DECA is needing to raise $13,260 for non-perishable, easy-to-make snacks for the weekend buddy bags.

This program has been a success since August 2011 with just over $157,500 raised through financial and product donations for the program. According to the corporation, as of Feb. 22, 51,327 weekend buddy bags have been given to 1,658 different Frankfort students. The corporation thanked the individuals, churches, grants and businesses who donate each year.

Beyond the DECA fundraising, many students are gearing up to raise funds for their continued education after graduating.

The corporation highlighted multiple scholarship opportunities, including the Zonta International Young Women in Public Affairs Award for $1,000 that is due March 8. Applications may be submitted at student services at Frankfort High School or on zonta.org.

The corporation also highlighted the Frankfort Lions Club Scholarship for $500, which is due April 5. Applications may be acquired in Student Services.

The corporation also highlighted a $1,000 scholarship for students entering the field of theatre or the performing arts. Two $1,000 non-renewable scholarships will be awarded to Clinton County graduating seniors by the Clinton County Civic Theatre. These scholarships are intended to benefit those entering theatre, television, music or radio in either performance or production. Applications are available in the Guidance Office and are due by April 19.
