Frankfort High School has earned the 2026 Indiana Purple Star School designation, recognizing its commitment to supporting military-connected students and their families.
Indiana Gov. Mike Braun announced that more than 75 schools across the state earned or renewed the designation this year. The Indiana Department of Education, in collaboration with the Indiana National Guard, selected 35 new Purple Star Schools, while 41 schools renewed their designations. The recognition is valid for three years.
Frankfort High School announced the achievement as the school prepares to celebrate Veterans Day and dedicate its new Military Wall of Honor.
The Purple Star designation recognizes schools that make efforts to ensure military-connected students and families feel welcomed, valued and supported.
Schools receiving the designation must meet several requirements, including:
- Assigning a point of contact for military families.
- Providing required training for the designated contact.
- Maintaining a webpage with recognition and resources for military members, veterans and their families.
- Hosting an annual military recognition program.
- Displaying public recognition of military service members.
- Passing a school board resolution supporting military-connected students and families.
- Guaranteeing an interview to qualified military service members and immediate family members who apply for open positions at the school.
Gov. Braun recognized the schools for creating supportive environments for military-connected students and families.
