Frankfort High School Partners with Purdue Formula SAE for Hands-On Engineering Experience

Students at Frankfort High School are getting a unique opportunity to experience real-world automotive engineering thanks to an exciting partnership with Purdue Formula SAE.

The collaboration allows Purdue’s student-led Formula SAE team to use parking lot space at the high school for additional vehicle testing as they prepare for upcoming competitions. More importantly, it gives Frankfort students a firsthand look into the world of engineering, vehicle performance, and problem-solving.

During special “test and tune” sessions, Frankfort High School students have worked side-by-side with Purdue engineering students, observing and participating in the testing process used to refine high-performance race cars. From troubleshooting issues to analyzing vehicle behavior, students are gaining valuable exposure to the kind of hands-on learning that extends far beyond the classroom.

The partnership is also leaving a lasting impact on the school’s automotive program. As a thank you to the school and students, the Purdue Formula SAE team is donating a Laser Alignment Tool that will allow students to measure and analyze vehicle dynamics using the same kinds of tools and techniques employed by professional engineers and racing teams.

School officials say the experience has been an incredible educational opportunity for students interested in engineering, automotive technology, and STEM careers. By connecting classroom learning with real-world application, the partnership helps students better understand how science, technology, engineering, and mathematics work together in practical settings.

Programs like this not only inspire future engineers and technicians, but also demonstrate the value of community partnerships in education. Through collaboration with Purdue students, Frankfort High School students are gaining confidence, technical knowledge, and a glimpse into exciting future career paths.

Community Schools of Frankfort expressed gratitude to the Purdue Formula SAE team for investing in local students and creating opportunities that will benefit them for years to come.
