Frankfort Mayor Judy Sheets, community members and residents and staff of Wesley Manor Retirement Community gathered to proclaim Dec. 25, 2024, as Mary Isabel Ransopher’s Day in honor of her 112th birthday and declaration as the oldest resident in the state.
Governor Holcomb sent a letter to Wesley Manor that was also presented to Mary during the afternoon, and Santa stopped by with a special birthday and Christmas gift for Mary.
The community bound together to send around 2,000 birthday cards to Mary for her 112th birthday with cards arriving from across the world in honor of her.
Mary was born Wednesday, December 25, 1912. She was born and grew up on an apple orchard near Russiaville, Indiana. The year she was born, the Titanic sank in the Atlantic Ocean and Girl Scouts were started by Juliette Gorden Low. The Wright Brothers flew for the first time only 9 years earlier. Mary was 29 when Pearl Harbor was attacked in 1941.
