Frankfort Splash Pad Experiences Delayed Opening Due To Water Filtration Issues

The Frankfort Parks Department has announced that the Prairie Creek Park Splash Pad will experience delays in its opening due to necessary repairs that are needed for the splash pad to function properly for the community to enjoy.

The Frankfort Parks Department released a statement regarding the splash pad on Friday afternoon on May 31 stating that the expected opening date of June 1 for the splash pad will be delayed due to unforeseen maintenance issues.

Parks Superintendent Joel Tatum stated that the department is currently working with various contractors to complete the necessary repairs, which include issues with the filtration system that was discovered during the opening procedures that were conducted earlier this year.

“We understand the community’s eagerness to enjoy the splash pad, especially as the summer season kicks off,” Tatum released. “However, we ask for your patience and understanding during this time. The safety and quality of our facilities are our top priorities, and we are committed to ensuring that the splash pad meets the highest standards before opening to the public.”

The original tentative date set for the opening of the splash pad was established during the Frankfort Board of Public Works and Safety on Tuesday, May 28 as Tatum reported that the contractors were able to obtain the parts necessary to conduct the known repairs that the splash pad required.

“AAA was there (May 28 because) the parts finally showed up,” Tatum said. “They actually went to Indy and got them. They were supposed to have been here on Friday. They ended up in Indy (Tuesday), so they just drove down and got them versus waiting another day.”

Tatum continued to state that the tentative opening date of June 1 would remain flexible as the splash pad was being tested, which led to the discovery of the filtration issues that caused the delay.

“They put them on, they got it all piped in and everything and it is filling with water right now, so we will pressure test it and everything (Wednesday),” Tatum said.

A new tentative date for opening has not be released.
