At approximately 7:30 a.m. Thursday, Clinton County Central Dispatch received a complaint of a Disturbance involving an armed suspect in the 4000-block of S US 421.
Matthew John Gilbert, 41, of Kirklin, was reported to have entered the residence with a firearm in an attempt to obtain more firearms and money. Gilbert is known to be armed and dangerous and is currently wanted on a warrant for Possession of a Narcotic (Level 3 Felony) through Clinton County Superior Court.
Deputies from the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area and established a perimeter. After multiple attempts to communicate with Gilbert, and the potential threat to the safety of law enforcement on scene and the community, Sheriff Rich Kelly requested mutual aid from the Indiana State Police Emergency Response Team (ERT).
To ensure safety to the public, at 8:10 a.m, the Sheriff’s Office, with the assistance of multiple agencies, shut down US 421 and placed emergency medical responders on standby.
The Indiana State Police ERT arrived on scene and assisted officers in clearing the property. Once the residence and additional structures were cleared, law enforcement reopened all public roadways.
Gilbert is still at large and is armed and dangerous. Anyone who has information of his whereabouts is asked to contact dispatch at 765-654-5563. If you encounter this subject, call 911 immediately. DO NOT APPROACH:
