Whether it is a source of drinking water, used for industrial processes, or used for recreation, clean water in our local streams and rivers is an irreplaceable resource. Again this year, a number of Hoosiers will become trained to help monitor this precious resource.
The Clinton County Soil & Water Conservation District will host a Hoosier Riverwatch basic training workshop on Thursday, May 25.
Hoosier Riverwatch is a statewide program that supports volunteer water quality monitoring of local waterways. In this introductory level workshop, attendees will discover the meaning of water quality and how to measure it. Workshop participants will learn about stream ecology and tools for assessing water quality through several fun activities both indoors and outdoors. Teachers, home school educators and scout leaders may be especially interested in this workshop as many of the activities can be adapted for use with all grade levels and are cross-referenced with state teaching standards. The workshop is open to individuals of eighteen years of age or older. High-school aged students may participate with a parent.
The workshop will be led by Hoosier Riverwatch trained facilitators. All activities will take place at the Camp Cullom Nature Center. There is no fee for the workshop however registration is required. Class size is limited to the first twelve individuals to register.
