The Frankfort Hot Dogs hosted the first youth track meet earlier this month with expectations for the meet to become an annual event.
On May 2 and May 3, the Hot Dogs boys and girls track teams hosted the first youth track meet for local students between preschool and fifth grade. Hot Dog teacher James Byers released a statement regarding the event, commenting that the meet was met with grand success.
”We had an outstanding turnout with nearly 50 young athletes trying track and field events for the first time,” Byers wrote. “The high school team coached the events and ran the meet incredibly well.”
The event allowed for the youth of Clinton County to experience their first instances of track and field events, such as shot put, dashes, distance races and hurdles as a means of getting the youth involved in a classic Hot Dog sport.
The Hot Dogs relished in the experiences as they prepared for their final home meet of the season on Monday for the Frankfort Relays.
”The kids did great competing in their final meet before conference and sections,” Byers wrote. “The field events carried the scoring with wins in the boys pole vault, boys shot, boys disc, girls shot, girls disc and girls high jump.”
The Varsity team will travel to Danville for a conference meet at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, May 10 to continue the momentum.
