As of 10 a.m., all lanes have reopened on I-65 as the on-site investigation by the Lebanon Police Department has completed.
I-65 southbound was closed this morning at Exit 140, State Road 32, due to an investigation by the Lebanon Police Department after reports of a crash resulting in a fatality on the interstate on Wednesday, Feb. 7.
According to the Lebanon Police Department, officers were dispatched after a report that a pedestrian had been struck and was found dead in the road.
Police released that a box truck hit a pedestrian on the interstate, and the driver was reportedly staying on the scene and cooperating in the investigation.
All southbound lanes were closed as the investigation began. The entrance ramp was also closed with a backup on the interstate reaching around three miles long according to the Indiana Department of Transportation.
The Fatal Alcohol Crash Team is investigating. The Lebanon Police Department is asking for community members with information regarding the incident to call 765-482-8836.
As of Wednesday, Feb. 7 at 8:30 a.m., the closure has not been relieved. Lebanon Police officers encourage the community to continue finding alternative paths around the closure.
Numerous Lebanon Police Department officers have been stationed around downtown Lebanon throughout the morning with the stoplight at the intersection of Meridian Street and State Road 32 being altered to a flashing red light with officers directing traffic. The left turn lane headed north on Lebanon Street at the intersection with State Road 32 was also blocked by a Lebanon police car to prevent vehicles from turning toward the highway earlier this morning.
Community members have reported that semis have been directed through the downtown streets from State Road 32 and State Road 47 with restricted mobility through the downtown streets.
The closure is expected to clear following the investigation by police.
