On October 23, detectives from the Indiana State Police Criminal Investigations Division at the Peru Post initiated an investigation at the request of the Wabash County Sheriff’s Office into the death of a highway worker identified as Aaron Burton, 51 years of age.
A preliminary investigation by detectives from the Peru Post revealed that on October 23, at approximately 1:30 p.m., Aaron Burton was located inside construction equipment by another employee. Wabash County EMS arrived on-scene, and despite life-saving efforts, Burton was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Wabash County Coroner.
The preliminary investigation does not indicate any signs of foul play. The Wabash County Coroner’s Office is assisting investigators, and an autopsy report is pending to determine the cause of death.
