At the request of the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office, the Indiana State Police has reportedly begun conducting an investigation into the death of an inmate at the Tippecanoe County Jail with preliminary investigations indicating that foul play was likely not involved.
A preliminary investigation by detectives from the Indiana State Police Lafayette Post reportedly indicated that around 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14 jail staff were alerted by an inmate to a potential medical emergency in their cell, which led to the location of an unresponsive inmate.
The staff reportedly contacted Emergency Medical Services and began rendering medical aid, but despite their efforts, the inmate was pronounced deceased at the jail by the Tippecanoe County Coroner.
The investigative team stated that preliminary investigations do not indicate signs of foul play, but the investigation is ongoing. The department stated that no further information will be released at this time by the investigators.
