The Indiana Department of Transportation announces the closures of the State Road 43 ramps have been rescheduled. The I-65 southbound and northbound on-ramps are closing on or after Friday, September 23, along with the I-65 northbound exit-ramp, which is expected to close on or after Wednesday, September 21. Work will be happening on I-65 from the Wabash River to County Road 725, near Battleground, for the I-65 added travel lanes and bridge construction project. The southbound on-ramp is scheduled to reopen after late-October, weather permitting. The northbound on/exit-ramps are both scheduled to reopen after late-November, weather permitting.
The official detour for the northbound exit-ramp follows I-65 north to S.R. 18 east to S.R. 43 south. The official detour for the northbound on-ramp follows S.R. 43 north to S.R. 18 west to I-65 northbound. The official detour for the southbound on-ramp follows S.R. 43 north to S.R. 18 west to I-65 southbound.
Also starting on or after Wednesday, September 21, there will be restrictions in both the northbound and southbound lanes of I-65 for Phase Two of construction on the I-65 added travel lanes and bridge construction project. Two, 11-foot lanes will remain open to traffic in each direction, along with a four-foot outside shoulder and a 6-foot inside shoulder. The restrictions will be between the Wabash River and County Road 725, and are expected to end after late-November, weather permitting.
This project was awarded to Walsh Construction Co. for over $99.4 million. This project will add an additional lane in both directions from the Wabash River Bridge to nearly 2.5 miles north of S.R. 43. Work also includes widening the Ninth St., Prophets Rock and S.R. 43 Bridges, improving the geometrics of the S.R. 43 ramps. S.R. 43 will be resurfaced within the interchange area and a traffic signal will be added at the on I-65 southbound ramps at S.R. 43. The entire project is expected to be completed in May of 2023.
