ISP Continues Investigation Into Monday Evening Interstate Shooting In Tippecanoe County

The Indiana State Police are currently investigating an interstate shooting that occurred in Tippecanoe County yesterday evening.

Yesterday evening, Dec. 9, just before 6 p.m., troopers from the Indiana State Police Lafayette Post reportedly responded to the Love’s Travel Stop on State Road 25 near Interstate 65 after receiving reports that a vehicle had allegedly been shot at.

A preliminary investigation conducted by the Indiana State Police Lafayette District Criminal Investigation Division reportedly revealed that two vehicles were traveling southbound on I-65 just north of the 178-mile marker exit to State Road 43, and current investigations reportedly show that someone inside a dark-colored Kia passenger car fired at least one shot toward a Nissan Altima. The investigators stated that they believe one occupant of the Nissan returned fire, and it is unclear whether the Kia was struck.

The driver of the Nissan reportedly continued to the Love’s Travel Stop where they discovered a bullet hole in their vehicle, and investigators believe the Kia exited I-65 at the 178-mile marker onto State Road 43 and did not stop.

The investigators stated that no known injuries are known at this time, and the investigation remains active and ongoing. Upon completion of the case, it will be forwarded to the Tippecanoe County Prosecutor’s Office for review and consideration of potential charges.

Investigators requested that anyone with information about this incident or relevant dash camera footage to contact the Indiana State Police Lafayette Post at 765-567-2125 and ask to speak with Trooper Wiley.

No additional information has been released as of 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 10.
