James Skinner Sworn In As Newest Board Of Works Member Monday Night

Frankfort Mayor Judy Sheets swears James Skinner into office as the newest Board of Works member.

Frankfort Mayor Judy Sheets officially swore-in the newest Frankfort Board of Public Works and Safety member, James Skinner, prior to the Board of Works meeting held on Monday, July 9.

On June 28, Mayor Sheets announced that Skinner would be appointed as the newest Board of Public Works and Safety member, and he was sworn in following the resignation of board member Megan Sheets.

Skinner acts as a prominent fixture in the Frankfort community as he recently retired from the Frankfort Police Department in 2022 after being a police officer for 42 years, concluding his career while serving as the Deputy Chief for the department. Mayor Sheets shared her decision-making processes as she elected to appoint Skinner to the position.

“Jim has extensive knowledge of local government, how our budgets operate and the importance of collaborating with those in the community,” Sheets said. “I am excited to have him join my leadership team and keep moving the City of Frankfort forward. He is a wealth of knowledge and is dedicated to this community.”

Skinner described his initial reactions to the appointment and the goals that he looks to set forward as he assumed the position for his first meeting on Monday where important topics from the Frankfort Police Department, Frankfort Parks Department, Frankfort Fire Department and Frankfort Street Department were discussed with votes necessary from the board for approval of promotions, community events and much more.

“I am fortunate to have this opportunity to work with Mayor Sheets and the great staff that serve our community every day,” Skinner said. “I am looking forward to the positive opportunities that are in the future for our great city.”

The Board of Public Works and Safety acts as the chief administrative governing body of the city, and it oversees the daily operations of all city departments, which include Building Services, Community Development, Police, Fire, Street and Parks Departments. The board also serves as the liaison between the Mayor, city departments and the citizens of Frankfort.

The board meetings are streamed and archived on the City of Frankfort YouTube channel for residents who may be unable to attend.
