Janet M. Hindsley, 86, of Frankfort passed away September 1, 2026 peacefully in her sister’s home in Frankfort. She was born to William Payne and Elsie (Boone) Ely in Kirklin, Indiana on July 17, 1940. She married Billy Joe Hindsley on November 13, 1971, and he preceded her in death December 31, 2021.
Janet attended Kirklin schools and worked at Thrifty Supply Company.
Surviving are: her brother, Glenn “Bud” Payne of Frankfort; and her sister, Diane Niemann, also of Frankfort; her nieces, Carol Payne of Frankfort, Angie (Ben) McCracken of Blacksburg, South Carolina, and Kelly (Mike) Harmon of Columbus; nephews Travis Stidham of Frankfort, and Jason (Linda) Payne of Lafayette. Bill brought two children into her life that also lead to several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild on the way. She loved them all but maintained a very special relationship with her oldest granddaughter Billie Buntin. Janet also dearly loved her dog Koby.
She was preceded in death by: her parents, William and Elsie and step-dad, Russell Ely; two brothers, James Payne and Randy Ely; a sister, Mary Jane Payne; and niece, Cindy Payne.
