Janice Marlene “Sue” Schocke, 89, of Colfax, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2025 in her daughter’s home. She was born on April 21, 1936 in Salem, Indiana to Paul and Lucille (Ray) Brough. Sue married Jerry Jay Schocke on April 18, 1952 in Salem and he preceded her in death on January 1, 2004. She brought light, laughter, and color – especially purple – into every life she touched.
Sue attended school in Salem and had worked in the kitchen at Clinton House Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center for 18 years, retiring in 2000. She attended New Hope Church. Sue lived her life with joy, humor, and an unshakable love for her family. She had a heart as vibrant as her purple hair and a spirit that made even ordinary days special. Sue’s life revolved around her children and grandchildren and she loved to cook for them and her friends. She looked forward to Fridays which involved a shopping trip and a stop at McDonalds for her favorite treat (including the toy). She found happiness in the simple pleasures like working in her flower garden and attending flea markets, auctions, and yard sales. This happiness was shared with everyone around her.
Sue was adored by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and all who knew her. Her warmth, wit, and love will forever remain in the hearts of those she leaves behind. Surviving are her children: Patricia Hodges (Steve Ostler) of Frankfort, Ralph (Chris) Schocke of New Ross, Sid Schocke (Angela Rutledge) of Jamestown, Tonya Schocke-Smith of Colfax, and Lecia Russell (Scott Nail) of Colfax, siblings: Carolyn Winslow of Salem, Linda (Clayborn) Broady of Mulberry, and Larry (Linda) Brough of Salem, 20 grandchildren, along with several great and great-great-grandchildren, who will continue to honor her memory by living with the same joy, kindness and sparkle she showed every day. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sons: Ronnie, David, and Frank, and siblings: Marilyn, Rosie, Butch, Billy, and Johnny, grandson: Frank John Schocke II, and great-grandchildren: Destiney McClure and Jason Schocke.
