On September 9, 2021, investigators with the Kokomo Police Department Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force received a CyberTip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) pertaining to Child Pornography/Child Exploitation.
The CyberTip was generated by Twitter and included two images depicting child sexual abuse material. Through the investigation it was determined that 47-year-old David R. Petty of Greentown, Indiana was the Twitter user suspected of transmitting the content.
On the morning of May 25, 2022, a search warrant was obtained for the 200 block of south Howard Street in Greentown. Investigators with the Kokomo Police Department were assisted by Investigators from the Howard County Sheriff’s Office and the Greentown Police Department. During the search, numerous electronic devices were seized from the residence. These devices were examined over the following weeks and were found to contain evidence of child sexual abuse material.
On August 11, 2022, a warrant was issued for David R. Petty for 7 counts of Possession of Child Pornography, Level 5 Felony (aggravating factor), and 3 counts of Possession of Child Pornography, Level 6 Felony. David R. Petty turned himself into the Howard County Criminal Justice Center on August 12, 2022.
