Kokomo Probationary Officer Terminated, Arrested Following Investigations

An internal investigation alongside a state police investigation led to the termination and arrest of a former Kokomo Police Department probationary officer.

On July 1, Kokomo Police Department Chief Douglas Stout was reportedly contacted by a separate law enforcement agency in reference to a criminal allegation that involved a probationary officer at the Kokomo Police Department, which reportedly led the administration of the department to immediately contact the Indiana State Police to investigate the allegation. According to the department, Stout and the Professional Standards Unit initiated an internal investigation alongside the report to the state police.

According to the department, a preliminary internal investigation revealed that multiple policy violations were accumulated by the probationary officer, and the officer, who was identified as Sinmi Asomuyide, was terminated based on the policy violations alone without the further investigation by the state police.

On July 22, the Indiana State Police reportedly notified the Kokomo Police Department that Asomuyide was arrented today, Monday, July 22 based on their criminal investigation as well.

The department reported that the investigation remains active, and anyone with additional information may contact the Kokomo Police Department at 765-456-7017 with the received information being forwarded to the investigating agency.

The Kokomo Police Department issued a reminder that all persons are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
