The Lebanon Community School Corporation has released a statement regarding the continued bomb threats that the corporation has received, stating that law enforcement has ruled the threats as unsubstantiated.
Superintendent Dr. Jon Milleman released the following statement regarding media reports of continued bomb threats for the corporation:
“We have been notified by a media outlet that they received another message indicating an explosive device was placed in multiple schools in the Lebanon Community School Corporation. We have been in direct and ongoing contact with the Joint Terrorism Task Force (FBI and State Police). We are also in direct and ongoing contact with our local law enforcement agencies. All law enforcement agencies and experts have assessed this message and do not believe it to be credible. These messages appear to be a form of SWATTING–A method of blanketly messaging organizations or schools in an effort to disrupt daily operations. Today, a reinforcement of this assessment includes the fact that a school district in the town of Lebanon in another state received the same message naming our schools. Yesterday, a school district outside the state of Indiana received a threatening message from the same sender and email address. Our Lebanon Schools Police have been monitoring the perimeters of our school buildings and entrances, including our surveillance video and overnight surveillance video. They are confident that our schools have and will remain secure, and our students and staff are not in danger of a threat.
The Federal, State, and Local Law Enforcement agencies have and will continue to aggressively investigate these messages on our behalf in an attempt to find the person or persons responsible. They do not believe these messages have any credibility or are being generated locally.
We realize these situations cause understandable concern. We are doing all we can to keep our students and staff safe and will communicate each time we receive another disturbing or threatening communication. If you wish to retrieve your child, or keep them home, please contact your child’s principal. We will work with families to support the education of all students.
