Mary attended Indiana University and graduated from the Indiana Business College. She lived a full and vibrant life marked by adventure, faith, and deep love for her family.
From a young age, Mary had a passion for swimming—an interest fostered by her parents, who were charter members of the Riviera Club. Well into her seventies, she logged over 3,000 miles at the YMCA in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Her enthusiasm for the outdoors included camping, hiking, tennis, bowling, and ice skating. She was the family historian and an avid photographer, always ready to capture a moment or document family history. In her nineties, Mary’s adventurous spirit earned her the “Daredevil Award” at Independence Village in Zionsville, Indiana.
On November 23, 1950, Mary married the love of her life, Ira A. Merriman. Known as Rusty to many, Ira and Mary shared 24 years together in Indianapolis before moving to Green Bay, Wisconsin. It was there Mary became a devoted Packers fan and fell in love with football. Later in life, she returned to Indianapolis and spent her final years at Independence Village West in Zionsville, where she continued to make new friends and embrace life with her signature joy and energy.
Mary Evelyn is survived by her nine children, along with 109 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Her children are Kathleen Merriman (Jack Honerkamp, deceased), Keith Merriman (Nancy), Andrea Dunlevy (Jerry), Kevin Merriman (Amy), Stephany Scholl (Philip), Aretta Larimore (Dan), Mindy Hochstetler (Dennis), Jim Merriman (Moncia), and Peter Merriman (Leah).
Mary’s legacy of faith, courage, and joy continues to flourish through her family. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.
