Motorist Urged to Use Caution This Morning

Motorists are urged to use extreme caution this morning following severe storms that moved through the area over the past 12 hours.

Damaging winds and heavy rainfall have left behind hazardous driving conditions across much of the region, debris in roadways, downed trees, and power lines—some of which may still be live and extremely dangerous.

In addition, localized flooding has been reported, with water covering portions of roadways in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Remember—never attempt to drive through standing water. It only takes a small amount to stall your vehicle or sweep it off the road.

If you must travel, slow down, allow extra time, and increase your following distance. Be especially cautious on rural roads and in areas where visibility may be limited.

If you encounter downed power lines, treat them as energized and keep a safe distance. Report hazards to local authorities when it is safe to do so.

Stay alert, stay patient, and give road crews and emergency responders the space they need to safely clear these hazards.
