Mural Commissioned for Prairie Creek Park

Artist Ricardo Cortez has left his artistry several places in Clinton County.  The newly renovated Iron Block building on the west side of the Frankfort square has his artwork on the windows now and more of his art will be added to the North side Iron Block windows.

Within the next “two or three weeks” Ricardo Cortez will start painting an 18 foot by 39 foot mural just to the right of The Farmers Bank stage in Prairie Creek Park.

Cortez said the painting will celebrate “The arts” including:

  • Music
  • Performing Arts
  • Education
  • Fine Art (paintings)

The theme will be a framed picture with expressions of these themes artistically expanding beyond the frame of the virtual 702 square foot picture.

The project is a joint effort of Cortez Art, the City of Frankfort and the Beta Tau chapter of Psi Iota Xi.

The project will start soon, according to Cortez.  Even though the basic design has been approved, he has some “artistic room” to modify the design to enhance the theme as he sees fit, once he gets into the project.

The wall is facing east so the integrity of the artwork will not be exposed to the worst of Indiana’s weather.

The new mural painting will be just right of The Farmers Bank stage and measure 18’ x 39’.
