Nancy S. Hummel

After a long and brave battle with cancer, Nancy Sue Hummel, of Lebanon, IN, passed gently into the arms of Jesus on March 20, 2025, surrounded by family members at Witham Memorial Hospital.

Nancy was born on Sept. 1, 1957, the youngest child of Betty and Stanley (Stryke) Strychalski of Lebanon, IN, where she spent her entire life.

Nancy graduated in 1975 from Lebanon High School and was married in 1982 to Larry Hummel. The couple were married for 38 years, prior to Larry’s passing in 2020.

Nancy was a faithful member of Gospel Grace Baptist Church in Fayette, IN, where, as long as her health permitted, she was literally there every time the doors were open. She served there for several years as a greeter and would greet people at the door with a bulletin and a smile.

Nancy was a homemaker and loved her family dearly. Her interests and hobbies included solving word search puzzles, beautiful sticker picture puzzles, and working on jigsaw puzzles efficiently and tirelessly. Nancy enjoyed watching her special show on TV: “Walker, Texas Ranger,” and was a huge fan of wrestling, never missing WWE Friday night Smackdown, as she would enjoy a bowl of popcorn. She had a great love for animals and leaves behind her two beloved cats, Callie and Brownie, who already miss her greatly.

She was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Betty Strychalski; her father, Stanley Strychalski; her husband, Larry Hummel; her sister, Janet Meece; and her brother-in-law, Stanley Meece.

Nancy is survived by her sister, Jo Ann (Troy) Brown of Lafayette, IN; brother, Chuck (Debbie) Strychalski of Lebanon, IN; and brother Paul (Mary Ann) Strychalski of Pittsboro, IN. She is also survived by 9 nephews and nieces, including niece, Jennifer (Steve) Drye of Fishers, IN, and dear friend, Debbie Lutes, of Brownsburg, IN.

Services will be held on Wednesday, March 26, at Myers Mortuary, with visitation from 11:00 until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, after the funeral service. Her pastor, Jason Grubbs, will officiate the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society of Boone County.
Nancy will be greatly missed by her family. We will be forever blessed by her life, her love and her infectious smile. Rest in Peace, our sweet Nancy.
